Early Childhood

We offer classes for little ones as young as age 2. These classes include:

Tiny Tots- 2-3 years old
Creative Movement - 3 to 5 years old
Pre-K Ballet - 2.5 to 5 years old
Intro To Acro Mini Sessions - 3 to 4 years old
REGISTER

Ballet

We offer ballet classes for ages 2.5 and up.  Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century.  It later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia.  Ballet training helps prevent injury and improve balance, concentration, alignment, posture and more.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of modern, jazz, lyrical, and ballet,  Contemporary dancers strive to find a mind-body connection through fluid movement that often tells a story.  In our contemporary classes, we encourage dancers to find a sense of  artistry while dancing.  We offer contemporary / lyrical classes to ages 5 and up.

Acro

Spotlight Performing Arts Center is one of the very few studios in New Jersey that offers an Acrobatic Arts program taught by a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor.  The program is based off of safe and effective progressions with proven results in flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling.  These progressions take the beginner preschool level dancer from log rolls and somersaults, to the advanced dancer tumbling across the stage.

Jazz

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with current forms of popular dance.  Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of specific body parts to the movement of the entire body with accents of musicality.  We offer jazz classes to ages 4 and up.

Tap

Tap dance is a style of dance in which the dancer wears shoes fitted with heel and toe taps and makes audible beats by rhythmically striking the floor or any other hard surface.

Hip Hop

Hip hop refers to a popular, energetic style of dance performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the US.

Progressing Ballet Technique

PBT is  program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon to help students advance in all dance forms by training muscle memory.  PBT focuses on core stability, weight placement, and alignment.  Here at Spotlight, our more advanced level dancers use this technique to support their ballet training.
